CityDays: MIT2016
CityDays is a series of one-day volunteer opportunities for all members of the MIT community. The Priscilla King Gray Public Service Center (PKG Center) coordinates several CityDays throughout the year across the Cambridge and Greater Boston area. In conjunction with MIT’s mission, CityDays aims to work for the “betterment of humankind” by connecting those who are a part of the MIT community with local organizations who need volunteers.
The PKG Center is delighted to collaborate with many organizations that contribute to the vibrancy of our city. We invite participants to engage in volunteer activities that will strengthen the relationship between the Institute and the community.
Celebrate a century in Cambridge through community service
Service day: Tuesday, April 19
**April 12: Due to wonderful response from the MIT community, volunteer registration for CityDays 2016 is now closed. Thank you!**
Join your MIT peers in a one-day volunteering opportunity celebrating the 100th anniversary of MIT’s move to Cambridge.
CityDays is a great way for living groups, lab partners, athletic teams, other student groups, and individual volunteers to give back to our local community by engaging with our neighbors and volunteering together. We secure service placements and provide logistical support for all participants.
Open to students, faculty, alumni, and staff. For more information contact aprilcityday@mit.edu.
CityDays MIT2016: Work out with InnerCity Weightlifting
Tuesday, April 19, 1–2 pm
**Registration is now closed. Thank you to those who signed up!**
As part of CityDays MIT2016, spend an hour working out with InnerCity Weightlifting and support their work in reducing local youth violence. ICW works to reduce youth violence by connecting proven-risk young people with new networks and opportunities, including meaningful career tracks in and beyond personal training. ICW uses the gym to replace segregation and isolation with economic mobility and social inclusion, disrupting the system that leads to urban street violence. Have a great workout, learn about efforts to fight youth violence in our community, and support the work of ICW!
Ask Me About...
Service day: Tuesday, April 19
**The deadline to register at an Ask Me About station has passed. Thank you for your interest!**
Celebrate the 100th anniversary of MIT’s move to Cambridge with the Cambridge Science Festival to engage the public with MIT’s fascinating research, student activities, and people. Help Cambridge get to know MIT better by volunteering at an Ask Me About station in one of Cambridge’s busy squares.
Bring a prop or image about your research, studies, or hobbies at MIT and join your peers in answering questions about your selected topic. Maybe you are an expert in biology, chemistry, or computer science. Maybe you are a video game whiz or know a lot about experimental vehicles. You can propose one or more topics, and you can sign up as an individual volunteer or with a group.
We will choose four overarching themes and invite you and your peers to talk with the public about your specific topic at an Ask Me About station in one of Cambridge’s squares.
